Just curious as to what others are working on. Here is what I'm in the middle of and what the basic purpose is:

It's a db to track parts we swap with our customers. It's primary table is on a sql sever so that the anyone in our company can view only the data via DAP's. The other tables are in the .mdb on the file sever. I plan on having it up and running in the next week or so. It will be used (add/edit,etc data), by approx 8-15 users in three different buildings off a file server share folder...

See screen shot attachment.

Being the obsessive/compulsive organizer that I am I've been off-and-on working on a large-scale 'organize my life' application to store not only my daily finances and report statistics on buying habits, employment, places I do business with often, real-time undesignated funds, etc... but also stores all of my life's information from employment records, to living spaces (apt information), to contacts (person and professional including dates of contact for assistance in 'remembering' when I last worked with said person) to the part I'm most proud of, my automated tax-preparation. Based on how I've classified my daily finances and the year's current tax-parameters I get a nice little report that makes it all as simple as filling in a form.

All of the financial back-end is up and running. Even used it to file this year's taxes. Most of the model for the living spaces information is up and running acceptably. Still need some Contact info back-end. Reports are written too but the whole app is in serious need of some FE forming and such. Right now, I'm the only one who understands it. :D

At work, current project is attempting to create a wrapper function to automatically execute emails with query results from nightly maintenance operations to our-off-site managers. Using KeithIT's lotusnotes code as a backdrop and fudging what I can from LotusScript documentation to force rich-text query results (which should appear like formatted tables).

Cool. Speaking on the organization need, here is a db I have contemplated that maybe someone has already done and may be able to share some insight on; When doing a db, hundreds of ideas, or things that need to be done come to mind. Currently, when a need comes to mind, I simply jot them down on a legal pad and continue on with what I'm doing. Then when I'm through with that task, I go on to the next item in this list. Eventually the list has all these to-do's crossed out / completed and the db is done. I would like to do this in a db that will allow me to 'clock' in on a task and categorize each task (forms, model, etc,..) This would allow me to go back and review how I work and what needs to be improved in the process. Say, I may be able to see where I need to do more up-front time organizing or defining an area, etc.... I could also use this system to document when I'm called off the development process to put out other fires in the department, say like when I have to go help someone format a spreadsheet...

You know, utterly simplistic as it is, it's a right-down brilliant little idea you have there Ken. Let me know how it works out.

Maybe I could market it, make some money and buy a really cool, expensive sports car :p

Edit - Just kidding around - really :)

Whatever works. I live in the city so a car does me no good. The girlfriend wants a new violin, though, and just HAS to have a guaneri (sp?). I think that'll easily eat up a good $300-500k. :p

Oh my gosh! Does it play itself or do you have to learn to play it as well. :D

It's okay, she's also had a $1m Strad on loan for a concert before. A $300k instrument seems like nothing in the world where the top instruments are $5m. Of course, I'm not certain if it plays itself, but that's really not a necessary feature since she plays just fine on her own. :D

I can't imagine a fiddle thats worth more than my pick-up...
