I have a string "HICX106-StandardTop-Venderedstest", I only want the first 30 letters or numbers ie "HICX106-StandardTop-Vendereds". Can anyone help, guess this is really easy!!!!!!!!!!

Use the left() function.

left ( "HICX106-StandardTop-Venderedstest" , 30 )

*extra spacing for better readability!

It hardly makes sense to hardcode the string

Maybe something like:

left(myFldName,30)

yes I understand that ..... I am showing him how the function works .... he can put it in a debug window to check how it works and play with it ....

I agree .... s/he should refer to the field not the string itself.
