I created a simple payroll program and is going well. However, for tax inputs I am provided with a tax calculation spreadsheet file which I refer to for every employer to get the correct tax figure. The spreadsheets file is protected except for the cells to enter the Gross Salary, No of Dependents and the Tax figure is displayed on the third cell.

Now I have inserted a txtbox to store the number of dependents for every staff. So I now have the Gross and Dependent on my form.

How can I get this 2 values to be referenced to the Tax Calculator spreadsheet to get the tax value automatically after entering the Gross or No of Dependents.

Simple Software Solutions

If you sit on the cell in Excel that displays the tax calulation and recreate the formula in Access then you won't have to use Excel to do the calculation.

You should avoid using other applications from performing calculations, these should e done within the applcation itself.

If you are writing a payroll package you will need to know the algorythmn for the calculation.

The problem is that the Tax Calculator spreadsheet file is locked and the cells where the calculations are done are hidden. Only the Gross and Dep cells are unlocked.(This file is handed out freely to small companies for their use and the tax rates change on yearly basis).

Tax schedules are not secret data. I am sure you could retrieve those schedules from any government agency like the Post Office (here in the states). Then create your own as suggested: ( Rate * Net ) = Liability
