I wonder if there is any ready made template that is tailored to protocol inbound and outbound mails (not e-mails), envelopes, documents etc.

You see, we receive and post documents avary day and we need to keep a record about what was received when by whom and its current location etc.
At the moment we use an old fashion book.

Do you have any idea?

I have never seen a template just for this.

I track correspondence as an integrated part of many of the applications I have create. Had not considered of making it a standalone application.

If you would tell me some more details about what you need to track I will attempt to help.

Hi, thanks for your concern. The "job description" is this.
We receive documents by courier or by individual clients who surrender them in our Customers desk.
We need to keep a protocol of what who when.
Then Customers desk must acknowledge to one of our colleague that documents are in our files.
Then we deliver documents to the proper person who he deals with Customs and/or other authorities.

Protocol and follow up of these documents (most of the times, documents are unique, no duplicate can be issued)
is very important, so far we do it with the old fashion way, we keep a book/ hand writing.

I am now building a very small database but I was wondering if there is any template directory somewhere
from which we could find something that could fit to our needs.

Is the POST HERE on the same subject?

If yes, then yiu will not find any Access free access templates to do this. It really is beyond what Access alone can handle.

I would urge you to use an SQL Server backend.

If it were my project:

I would look into using Sharepoint if it is available.

Otherwise, there are may great collaboration and Document Management solutions available. Some are free and open source. Most are web based.

This would be a good alternative: http://sensenet.codeplex.com/
