Hi.
In Outlook, when I save an email in a custom folder (i.e., Spreadsheet-related), the date that shows in Outlook's preview pane is that of the date it was saved, and not the email's actual date.

Any way around this?

Not the answer that I had hoped for, but I appreciate the response, Bob.

I am not so sure about this one. Do you mean an Outlook Folder or a Folder on your computer that you view from Explorer?

What version of Outlook are you looking at and what preview pain.

In my summary of emails for a folder I have the Field "Received" and that is always the date an email was sent or received and it does not change.

Same for me. Are you using an Outlook Data File? If so, the recieved date should not change. If you save the email as a new file on your computer, then it's going to be the date the file was saved, because that's when it technically was created.

Sorry I had not responded back sooner, esp. as you were both so kind to reply quickly. (I have been buried in major, time consuming report.

Anyway, in response to your questions:
I am using MS Outlook, 2000 Corporate edition.
I created new folders within Outlook. So 1 might be regulation-related or dept reports...
So when I take messages that I have read from my InBox and move them to 1 of these new folders... And, I open th efolder that is set to 'Messages with Auto-Preview', I seee 'From, Size, and Created. The Created date is that of when I copied the emails and nt when they were originally sent to me. If I open each email individually, i can see the actual date it was 1st sent to me. But when dealing with many emails (kept for documentation and reference purposes), it is obviously impractical to go opening each and every one to find a message from a specific date.

Any ideas to help me better manage this?

Russ

Ok so I did understand your question. Yes you do have a problem - Outlook should not be doing that. The date received in the summary view should not be changing.

The only thing I can think of is that the fields you are showing in the summary view is not really the date received - even though that is the name you have given to it.

This is just a wild guess.

That is normal because the "Created" field refers to that exactly i.e. when the file was created and since you 'created' it that's the correct time stamp. You need to choose "Received" field. Right click on the header bar (where the fields are) and select field chooser > received and then you can drag that in place of any of the other fields.

Opps sorry - I somehow did not read "created"

Yes you need to change your field selections.
