decimal places in table design

My problems seem to be about the most silly things....

I have a table with various columns containing information in euros. For some reason it will not let me use cents because it always rounds them up or down to the nearest euro. I have gone into table design and changed the decimal places from "Automatic" to "2" but this achieves nothing either. Can someone help me out in this?

You have chosen a Number field and the default nuumber type is Long Integer which does not allow decimal places. Either change this from Long Integer to Single or change the field type from Number to Currency.

I did actually have the currency firld selected but it did not work. I have now closed down the program and, on openng it, it now seems to be okay.
