Hello,

I have created a database containing customer records and i wanted to somehow add a part where an individuals records will automatically be deleted if they are not active for 3 years+

Please may i be advised of a direction to take

Thanks.:)

Why delete them? What advantage is there? Just keep all your data, then you can easily do historical statistics.

its for my coursework..

+1 for leaving them. In real life, that's what you would normally do, using a status field or something to be able to identify active/inactive customers. What happens to your referential integrity if you delete the customer records? Either you you lose it and can't identify who a sale was made to, or you also delete invoice records and your financial history is wrong.

we seem to be doing a lot of your course work for you:D

Please may i be advised of a direction to take
look at using a delete query and a criteria to identify those records over 3 years old

But in real life I agree with Mark and Paul

If your teacher ask you to delete these records you should look for amother teacher.
Convience him that the correct way is to mark them as inactive, not to delete

Never Delete, if you want to be smart, figure out how to show your teacher how to do it without deleting. If you really want to be a first class developer, learn to think out side the box and be confident.
