Did you watch?

I probably would have, just out of curiosity, but I was out "stimulating the economy".

I may watch the youtube version this weekend, though.

Not sure what you mean, shopping? or ?

By the way, I like your new signature much better than the old one.

Yes, the wife and I went to Cabella's. I bought a few hundred rounds of ammo. My weak attempt at protest, I guess. Looked like a lot of people had the same idea, though.

I heard that on the radio the other day, but I missed the "author".

Can't watch the youtube; no CC.

But gotta love pbaldy's link. This is in line what I've understood since NTFU did a study on all candidate and put Obama's plan #1 in deficit spending. NTFU also put McCain as fairly high in deficit spending as well.

Really sucks that we're just choosing between tax-and-spend politician and borrow-and-spend politician when we really need is do-nothing politician.

What is CC and what is NTFU?

Closed Captioning.

National Taxpayer Union Foundation (should be NTUF, actually- my typo.)

I agree with you that the choice IS between tax and spend or borrow and spend, but I don't see anything wrong with tax and spend. That is the way it is supposed to work. It is like saying there is something wrong with earning and spending, which is what most people do. You are supposed to earn money, and then spend it on your living expenses. The government is supposed to collect taxes, and then spend them on our public expenses. Why has that somehow become a bad thing? In my mind, the problem comes when there is too much spending, and when the taxes and the spending get out of alignment.

Speaking of CC, my mom isn't deaf but is heading in that direction, and always has the CC going on her TV. The typos/mistakes on that thing are sometimes hilarious. I guess they're not set up beforehand but typed in by someone on the fly?

Alisa, well, yes, but my gripe is that they are promising the pie in sky with regards to social programs, overstepping the lines drawn by the Constitution. As I said before, the state government are free to be as socialistic as they want to be, it's just not the Federal Government and thus definitely not POTUS's place to make such promises of providing affordable health care, housing and retirement for everyone. Those are exactly what got us in this mess in first place.

Thanks for that link; I know about that one already.

Paul, most of time, news use real-time captioning with someone using similar tools as to what court stenographer uses- where they type out phonics rather than letters of alphabet. So, yes that's why it's quite easy to see so many typos. For other programs that aren't live, they're typed beforehand and far more accurate & in sync with what is going with. That's one another reason I don't bother with TV- the only worthwhile(?) thing to do with it is watch news, even assuming that I found a good station that reported stuff as they were, the real time captioning usually kills the whole point of watching it. So it's just a movie theatre to me right now with me getting news on internet.

As long as you gripe about both of them, I won't complain. :)

I have to agree - my tv is stuck with the captioning on, I can't figure out how to turn it off, and I can't imagine trying to watch a show based only on that. Half the time the words are a full minute behind what is happening on the screen, mispelled, leaving out entire sentences, etc etc.

Not sure if I saw you saying you have kids? If so, at least they're learning to read with CC on.

I have to admit that is a first- a TV that comes with CC on. For me it's always having to show the clueless salesperson at store how to turn on the CC.

Well actually what happened is that the kids somehow used the remote to turn the captioning on, and then broke the remote, and apparently there is no way to turn the captioning off without the remote. Anyway, they both know how to read already.

Ooo, that sucks. And that's also the weak point of those universal remote- they only work for basics but never for anything involving menu, including CC.

And I probably worded it poorly- having CC on help reinforces good reading skills, so even if they knew how to read already, it does help them become better at reading. That's what I understood, anyway.

Do not worry Banana - you are not missing much, it is the higher bandwidth media garbage which convinced me to stop lobbying for bandwidth above 32kbps out here...

The only time it really bothers me is when the words are scrolling right accross people's faces. Argh! I will have to ask them if they ever read the captioning while they are watching Spongebob Squarepants :D

For those of you that love a Progressive Tax System and say ours don't do enough, here ya go -

It says the US
has the most progressive tax system and collects the largest share of taxes from the richest 10% of the population."

That's right ... our tax system is more progressive than Sweden's. Are ya jumping up and down now?

Hmmm .. how much more can you take from that upper crust until they do squirrel their money under a mattress and not allow it to participate?

dK, the point is that we need to take taxes away from the rich to give to the poor. It doesn't matter how much it is. The unfairness in the current system is because we just waste the money we're taking from the rich in other ways. We need to give more to the poor because Obama wants us all to be rich and this is, seemingly, the correct method of doing it when you're a new messiah.
