I want to set up a database that displays a statement in English in one field and its equivalent in Chinese (full characters) in another. Is it possible to do it? I've done it in the past by having the Chinese as a graphic, but there must be a simpler way.

As with all truly programmable utilties, what you seek should be possible. Which is a far cry from "likely."

First, Access doesn't have an English-to-Chinese translator built in that I know of. Therefore, you have either read this or write it.

Second, how many Chinese characters are we looking at?

Third, is there a font file somewhere that has all the parts you need to build the Chinese ideographs?

Offhand, I would not give you real good odds here.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic, though I am far from an expert.

I could be wrong, but it doesn't sound like Mrsostrich wants Access to translate anything, just that he/she has a database with English in one field and Chinese in the other and wants to display the equivalent text in Chinese when something is entered in English.

I've worked with users who have been able to enter Chinese and Japanese characters into Internet Explorer and Outlook 2000, and I know there are international versions of the entire Office suite. Microsoft is making a huge push in China (at least for Windows) so I'd be amazed if there wasn't come capability in Office to display Chinese characters.

That's right, I don't need a translation facility - I teach Chinese pupils and want to display report comments in Chinese, as well as in English, using the English version of Access.

Some of those leads look promising, so I'll investigate a bit further and report back. Any more suggestioins gratefully recieved.
