Jon:

Have you lost your mind? What an insult.

I don't have the bandwidth to support that kind of rubbish. If you insist on continuing with it that will be the end of my involvement with this site.

There are audio ads now? I haven't noticed that one.

I opened a page this morning and a trombone started playing followed by someone talking (about colds and flu I think). I didn't click on any ads.

I closed the page and the same thing started again on another AWF page.

The ads that are shown are determined by a 3rd-party, the same ones I have been using for years. Galaxiom, I do not take too kindly to your tone. Insulting the owner of these boards will do you no favours whatsoever.

So you have zero say in what is advertised and the type of content?

Perhaps you could pass on to that third party what your contributors think of that situation.

I have several 3rd party advertisers that broker the adverts. I have virtually no say in it.

If you have a beef with it then by all means make your point, but without insults. I will remove those who continue in this fashion.

Audio ads are impractical for those who have limited bandwidth. The "user experience" is of short bursts of sound that are so broken up that they are insensible.

I am sure they have no desire to waste their own bandwidth on ineffective techniques.

Perhaps you could point this out to them, of course if that is not to much trouble for you.

There are some rich media ads which use video if you hover over a double underline link you see on some words on the forum. I am locked into a contract with them.

I have never heard any audio ads on this forum that get triggered in any other way. Sometimes you get rouge advertisers that slip through the system, but they normally get caught and removed by the brokers.

Maybe I happened to pass over one of the hover ads when switching windows. I do recall as box opening up.

I understand the forum requires time & money to maintain and since unlike auto-forums there are no paying vendors on this forum to generate income, AD's are the only way to go.

I'm just worried that it might drive traffic away from the site, competing Access Sites are hosting ADs and they seem to do fine, they just ask for paypal donations.

Alot have left since the adverts began I think. I'm sick of the girl with the big baps appearing after posting a thread - dating agencies are not why people come to this site.

It was tons better years ago.

I agree, makes this forum very unsuitable for work.

Jon, please do something about this.

Honestly Jon, this is getting way out of hand. Can't even browse at work anymore:

Well Jon - I love this site. It has been extremely helpful to me with my Access endeavors. Well mostly - I wish you could block someone from even being able to reply to my posts. Galaxiom isn't helpful and just slams you for not 'doing it the right way'. I understand there are proper ways to do things and while I am willing to listen to them - please help me too rather than educate me.

If you wish to ignore someone, follow these steps:

  1. Click their profile name.
  2. Click "View Public Profile".
  3. Click "User Lists".
  4. Click "Add to Ignore List".
Once you do that, you will no longer see posts by that person.

I think that is a bit over the top, but anyway education is the best help anyone can give.

I came across my first audio ad today that was not one of the Contextual ads. The offending advert was the one on the bottom of these forums. I have remove one ad supplier and I am hoping it is they who are the guilty party.
