Will this end the modern age?
Have you taken precaution for a mid-level one?

Within hours (Friday 9/12/2014) a large EMP from a Solar Flare will hit Canada. It isn't one of the big ones, but it is worth watching.
Given the current Solar Cycle, there is a 10% chance in the next few years of the large one described in the article. One that might even fry electronics at the transistor level.
The data from the 1800's was how they discovered solar flares induced EMP on wires. Telegraph wires generated sparks that started grass fires, caused batteries to explode and more.
It is no mistake that many countries decades ago funded space observations of the sun. These cycles and super cycles are somewhat predictable.

No country except Russia has a stockpile to replace the electrical grid transformers that literally melt. There is no electrical grid recovery plan if the larger one hits.

In preparation, I hate the though of having to drink warm beer in the post-EMP future. Damn you Sun!

Well, all those solar panels will probably be useless as they use silver at a transistor level film. They actually might be somewhat fragile to an EMP.

If you have solar panels, here is the protection needed for an EMP found about half-way in this article:

The Sun is one source of EMP. The cycle should be accelerating now.

Global Warming? I woke up to snow in Denver, Colorado this morning.

Oh, please. There's a reason it's called 'global warming' and not 'denver warming'.

"Seatbelts save lives!"
"But someone was once killed by their seatbelt, so obviously seatbelts save no lives whatsoever and actually only ever kill people!"

Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear.
So, by that logic, I should believe only 1/4 of what I see.
But if you said it instead of written it, then I should believe everything I see AND hear.
I got it now.
Thanks.

No argument with you or EAP.
Besides you didn't use quotation marks or attribute the quote to him (until now).
Besides I don't believe you.

(All the above is only good natured kidding - hope you realize that.)

Get some low-power devices and look into protection. I think a simple Faraday cage would work, although I am not an engineer. Anyway if it does happen I'm double bust, my work is in IT so lets hope it does not happen ;)

You'll have plenty of work trying to get everything back online and all those backups reinstalled. better you than me?
