Dear All,

Created a ms access db in vr2000, during my training. Trying to open it in ms access 2007 and all my fields (except few) are coming encrypted. Can anyone, please help.

Rgds

Sunil, it is hard to just give a straight forward answer, provided your description. What encryption has been applied? DB either can be encrypted as whole or not.. It is really hard to just have few fields encrypted...

Thinking again, I recall your other thread requesting some of us to HACK into the DB.. Is this the same request?

tables looking like they are encrypted (chinese characters etc) can be a sign of corruption.

No this data was created by me. It has one single table. Very simple database.

 who is this response addressed to?

To yourself Paul Eugin. That earlier database was password protected and I am was not able to open it. This is my database which I created in MS Access 1997-2000 and trying to open in MS Office 2007. The interesting part is some fields are coming fine and others are messed up. Please see attached file for reference.

See if there is any module available in the DB file, if encryption is applied, then there should be code to Decrypt..

If not, I am sorry to say this.. But there is no way in obtaining the real data.. As we have no idea of what encryption method has been implemented.. Even if we know what encryption is used, we still need the key that has been used..

Thanks Paul. Do you think, apart from Encryption this can be anything else.

As Dave has explained it might be corruption.. But seeing at your Screenshot, I would say No.. As the data that is 'cryptic' is sensitive information like address, phone number.. So it might be just an encryption.. But that is just a plain guess.. Are you able to delete the information and write over it?

Wait a second...

If this DB was created by you then; would you not be the one who did some Encryption?

In other words if you have not provided any Algorithm to perform encryption the only other thing is Corruption of fields..

Or maybe it is not your DB, and you are trying to get information??
