Even Better News - Edinburgh Festival

really do not prefer the bagpipes, the sound is not appealing to me up close but I think it sounds nice off in the distance.
The bagpipes have been cleverly designe to raise the spirits of all Scots while demorlising their opponents. Clever eh??:D

I like them. Of course, that's just a theory since I've never been close to dozens of them at one time. Not a lot of bagpipes in Texas, you know.

Coincidentally there are not a lot of Texans at the Glengarry Highland Games ;)

I'm glad to see the festival is still going on. I lived in Ottawa for a while.
I hope things have improved in Maxville. When I went there in the '80s the only place to get a drink was the Legion.

Texans don't need bagpipes, they blow enough hot air from the built in air bags..................

Things have improved in that aspect and people can be drunk, obnoxious and embarrassing in front of their family, friends and peers all over the fairgrounds.

Improvement is subjective to points of views. Our gatherings are lots of fun, however, first nations traditions do not allow alcohol or drug consumption at powwows.

Near here they have the Glengarry Highland Games this week and that is like a Scotland traditional Powwow ;)

OK, I've just spent the last few trolling the streets of Edinburgh. Very few bagpipes! The Edinburgh "International" Festival is a celebration of performing arts and acts come from all around the world! Many of our best comedians were discovered here and still perform here. I would not say it's at all like the highland games, it can, however, be compared to the festival in Quebec City around this time of year:)

We managed a few dry days, which was very well planned, now it's back to tending our water garden (it didn't start off that way you understand). :D

Well we had to Scotland celebrations here so hopefully you had the First Nations entertainment there at the International powwow in Edinburgh like jungle dancers or drumming or lacrosse games :D
Too far even for us to go to Quebec for the 400th anniversary but I wish we went they had Paul McCartney and Celine... not together though - that would have been nice.;)

I don't think the festival should be held in Scotland. It's too far away from civilisation.

It would be much more popular if it was held in London (or at least somewhere south of the M4 corridor) - and renamed of course - then it wouldn't take about a week to get there.

Scotland should be reserved for the saddo gits that like emptiness, windswept mountains and loads of rain.

I mean - what is there worth seeing in the UK north of Gloucester?

No it's not, it's right outside the door! :p

Yep, good idea, any suggestions on what to call it? How about, "not the Edinburgh International Festival but something else the English stole"???

LMAO, if I'm not mistaken, half of England keeps getting swept away every year with floods!
I mean - what is there worth seeing in the UK north of Gloucester?
Good point. You'd best stay where you are :D It's a shame as well, we'd just unravelled the red carpet especially for you.

I was over in Edinburgh on Saturday for the opening day of the Book Festival. Rather enjoyable, even though it pissed it down the whole day. Back on Friday, and then all of the following week. I've lived in Glasgow (about 55 minutes away) for twenty-nine years and never before have I went to Edinburgh for the festivals.
