The office I work at has a really old house on its property. My cousin decided to take my voice recorder and try to get an evp recorded. There is a business call in the middle of the recording, sorry, just ignore it. During the recording, there were only 2 women in the house.

Anomalies
:40 "Theres nothing here...[inaudible]
2:50 "Get Out" This one is extremely faint, very hard to hear. This one could just be static.
3:00 Male Voice that humms something
3:51 Same male voice doing same thing.

Here is the file.

There is another recording that is seven hours long, with no one in the house. There are a few interesting things on it. One is that there is a steady noise like a clock or metronome the fades in and out through out the whole tape. But the house has nothing in it that makes noise. We only use the house to archive some old paperwork. There is nothing else in the house.

Our home is old 1880 and the mirror in the kitchen swings on the wall at different times in the evening. Also there is a knocking noise near the cellar door occasionally and creaking on the floor in the upstairs hall like someone is walking down the hall but no footsteps sound just the creak of the boards. Maybe the building is still settling?
Stuff also gets moved around or at least I swear that it does but sometimes Mrs.Fifty2One thinks that I am starting to get old in the head. Things also disappear from time to time not just like the last chunk of chocolate cake in the fridge that vanishes overnight or the shirt I hate to wear when we go visiting or the sock in the drier. Books have jumped out of the bookshelf in the library upstairs.
We just tell people it is Tony but we do not know who or what there name is really.

I just did a little bit of research. This house was built in 1915. Thats the only thing I was able to come up with. I found the owners names in the 80's, but thats not very useful. Im going to night with my brother and sister to see if we can record anything. If we find anything else, ill try to post it here!

Here is one of 2 recordings tonight. EVP 3. Second recording was too long. Files too big.

5:03 Whispers
6:18 Voice speaks right before me.
8:36 Weird moaning noise
8:52 Responded to a question! Asked it to move a ball. Answered "Ill try it later." This was faint. Can someone try to verify what it said.
11:19 Weird creak sound

Because my cousin has decided to freak out, I am not allowed to make anymore recordings. :(

Also, members of a branch of TAPS is coming on friday. Thats cool, but because I am atheist, I am being told I am not allowed to go, because the property is going to be blessed.

I am pissed over all this. My cousin is acting like a little kid who saw a scary movie, only the parents werent there to cover her eyes!

Get a bunch of atheists round to the house and do the hokey cokey or something. This ghost stuff is best done with a group of friends and alcohol with the intent purpose of having a good time.

I firmly put ghosts in the same category as god, i.e. nonsense, but you can still have a lot of fun with friends, booze and a ouija board.

I like your way of thinking! I cant argue with anything. Its too bad my cousin doesnt share these views.

I was recording a hypnotherapy tape one night, for some reason I decided to do this in a different room to the one I usually use. All the way through you could hear someone in the background saying "hello, hello", like they were doing a sound check, but quite softly. It was a woman's voice and, other than the cat and dog, I'm the only female in the house. I redid the tape with the same results so I moved back to my usual space and the tape came out perfect - ie no background noise.

I've lived all my life with what other people call "weird happenings", I don't believe in a god, so I can only explain it away by saying that I live in an alternate reality :D

I guess you believe in fairies and that Mickey Mouse is real too!

I'll see if I can find the details later - I read an interesting article about EVP and human perception - basically, they played the same bunch of noise to a number of different groups of people - each group was given a different, fictional transcript of the EVP phenomena supposedly in the sample they were about to hear.

Each group (thought they) heard exactly what they had been told they would hear, despite it being the same noise sample, and wildly different/contradictory transcripts in each case.

What you hear isn't necessarily even there - human perception is a really funny thing.

As a really quite striking example of this... my dad used to take us camping in the South of France every summer - we'd get the ferry over to Le Havre and spend two days driving down to the campsite on the Cote D'Azur - us kids would have to entertain ourselves quietly in the back seats.
I noticed fairly quickly that I could just tune in to the road noise and think of a piece of music and I would be able to hear that music, really quite clearly, in amongst the noise.

I recently told my own kids about this and they have also been able to do it. The music obviously isn't there at all, it's just that if your brain is expecting to, hear it, it will pick out the sounds that match your expectations and suppress those that don't.

Try it next time you're in a car on the motorway (when someone else is driving)

I agree Mike. It's much the same as seeing things. Sometimes a shadow can be misinterpreted simply because the brain is always happy to fill in details with what it knows. So if the shadow has the basic outline of a man, you might see a man in the shadows.

There are times, however, where I cannot explain things away by tiredness; brain activity; shadows etc and that does make me wonder...

I agree, there are unexplored corners where weird, perhaps inexplicable things happen.

I'm just a bit disappointed that in so many cases, what makes it into the media is not the exploration of those weird corners, but just the exploitation of the mundane things that really do have a quite reasonable explanation.

Like Tim Brewer's Dead Guy Orbs - maybe they really do exist - but all I know is that every example I've ever seen people ranting over looked a lot like lens flare, dirt on the lens surface, or illuminated dust motes too close to focus.

The Department of Parapsychology at Edinburgh University did a study into the Vaults below the city. They picked up some very strange reading down there and couldn't figure it out, so they rebuilt one or two of the rooms where the readings were found, using the same materials dimensions etc, but building them miles away. The readings were exactly the same!

I remember when I read about this thinking "they did that in The Entity years ago". Strange though.

I agree. Thats why I am very cautious to say what is causing these evps. I am just an interested observer.

No it isn't.

Perhaps your signature should start "If you want to"?

Considering I was there, and she did not say that, yes, I find it a little creepy.

She did not say "If you want to adlkfadghpairgkldf"

I was standing right next to her when she said that line. Why would the recorder possible get it wrong? Its not like she moved the mic, and the sound is muffled or anything. Its simply not her voice, and not what she said. I dont think she could repeat that sound if she tried.

There you go, then.
It was a ghost.

And another thing, that mumbled sound is not anything. Ive slowed it down and used noise filtering on audacity, it says nothing. At the end of the mumbling, it almost sounds like it says "best buddies", but doesnt really sound like anything.
