I have a list of names that have addresses and a column that has a number that refers to a bar code. Ideally, I am trying to find a way to be able to type the bar code number or scan the bar code on a printed piece with a scan gun, have it find the line of info that goes with the bar code and extracted to a different spread sheet automatically as a "responder" list. I am not sure if there is a way to do this, a macro.. or ?

The scanners I've used are "keyboard wedge" types. They either by default or as an option send the data they read and then an "Enter". I set up my application so that focus is on a textbox when the scanner is used. I use the after update event of the textbox to process the input data. I would use VBA to do what you describe, and it shouldn't be too difficult.

I think what we have is what you explain. We have the scan gun that goes into the keyboard port. So we can scan these bar codes fine. The next step we want to do is for it to auto find the line (on that line, name, address, barcode) after we scan and copy it into another spread sheet. We can do a manual "find", manually highlight, copy and paste.. but it is rather time consuming for bigger list.

Does that sound like something you do with your scan gun?

It sounds like you're working within Excel? I use it for a parts system, but within Access. It's not difficult to get the data associated with a number in Access, but I'm not sure how you'd have it organized in Excel.

Do you have an email I could send you an example?
Access to a txt file would work fine, then we would pull it into excess.

Here is some sample I made up. "From this" file would be the main entire list. Use scanner gun to find the name line and pull it into a new list "to this" would be end result. You could then scan for other names to be pulled and added.
