Films and TV

I like House but they're not airing it. I guess they're still recovering from the writer's strike.

Don't you find it confusing though? This guy who's supposed to be the best doctor in all the universe can never get a diagnosis right until his patient is nearly dead?

Great show though.

Yeah, I definitely noticed that. And the suggestion is always "lupus".

Well naturally, you wouldn't expect someone to die from, say, eating rhubarb leaves :D and if they did, it would have to be because their immune system was shattered ...:D

I've always thought the same thing... He's got to damn near kill the patient before he can heal them. I hope I never have to go to that hospital.

Hmm, isn't the show based up there in Michigan? LOL.

Hey...

Atleast allmost dying of something serious and surviving is MUCH better than going into a hospital for something MINOR and dying !!!!

Now a days, I dont watch hospital series like that... hits a little too close to home for the moment (still)

Understandable Mailman. So, what do you watch ?

Doesn't the new series start next week?

Is that here or there? Presumably you're going to say "here" because that'll be where ever you are :D So where's here :D

Here, being North America.
For reasons that escape me, almost every show starts it's new series each year within a week of each other.
We're a week or so into the return of old shows and the start of new ones.

Hooray!! Does that mean that the new series of Dexter is on the horizon??? :D I swear I'm getting withdrawal from that series. I need a fix :D

I think I've seen trailers for it, but the way TV is shown here, it's often difficult to know if they're plugging repeats or new shows.

It's difficult to watch some series because of this.
For example, you see episode one of something and decide to watch the second part. The schedule in the UK would be
Week 1 - Episode 1
Week 2 - Episode 2
etc.
arring the world cup, emergency news, the olympics, etc. the episodes tend to be shown in chronological order, on subsequent weeks.

Here, you might get
Week 1 - Episode 1
Week 2 - Nothing
Week 3 - Episode 2
Week 4 - Episode 1 again
Week 5 - Episode 3
All doe so the series can end during 'sweeps' week, regardless of how many episodes it has.
If the programme is meant to follow a timeline, as opposed to being a series of one-off episodes, this really kills the momentum.

I dont do much TV watching now a days. To many hours at the office to relax much.

Then again anything on tv is...
Every second hour is a repeat (or two-hundred-peat) of something ie ATeam/Knight rider/or some movie like 'Rambo 1' or Sound of Music etc.
Every third hour is a 'reality' show, (Big Brother/Osbornes/Popstar/etc) which I dont care for
Every forth hour is a talkshow, Oprah, Dr Phil etc, which I dont care for
Every fifth hour is soaps, bold and the beautiful / Flying docers / etc. which erm I dont care for

My intrest for TV goes towards SF, unless it is a repeat/20-peat of Star Trek the *FRIGGING* Original series, which is STILL running...
Or it is a re-run of the "original" trilogy of Star Wars etc...
i.e. Stargate/Star Trek/etc.... But no frigging repeats!

The news... usually the morning news during breakfast.

And the general intrest shows for consumers, showing up sharletans and airing the dirty laundry for bad businesses....

Hmm, when we get a series we like we usually record it and watch it all at once! When I say all at once, I mean like one episode a night, don't really get time to do much more than that, and I'm not complaining, my life is interesting enough without too much TV. ;)

Can't quite get to grips with "reality" shows. Are we supposed to believe that people act like that all the time? Of course they are putting on a show for the camera's - even Ozzy, especially Ozzy. You can't tell me that somebody that thick can right such brilliant lyrics??

As for chat shows. Oh please, that's all made up. nobody would go on TV and fight with their partner/siblings etc like that. It's staged!

And our old favourite, TOS, I love the abrieviation, it says it all :D

Here in the NL they have a trick ... they air the first season, then advertise the new season starting...
Only to start halfway thru season one as a "refresher" and then end in the middle of season 2.

I tape most things I like to see too, for a couple of reasons
1) They come on at all ours of the day
4pm I am still at work, 1 am I am allready asleep or some wierd hour or day....
2) They NEVER start at the advertised time, just to try and get you to come early and watch part of the earlier program (Including the commercial break) NOT to miss the start.
3) Commercial breaks!!!
I fast forward them ;) Turns a 1 hour episode of Star Trek Voyager into 40-45 mins.
4) Offcourse DURING the show your friends call or the washing machine breaks
5) Busy
If you are busy doing something sometimes you forget time and *boom* you missed an episode... The timer takes care of business for me regardsless.

How about a thread to chat about anything other than politics? For starters I'm guessing most people watch a movie or TV from time to time (please no political agenda's, it really is driving me nuts)

So, what's your favourite Movie? and/or TV show?

I think I have to rate Dogma as my favourite movie, TV show, has to be Dexter :D

Why did I know the lady was going to say that?

My favorite movie???? The Departed
My favorite TV Show? Dexter (Which I heard is coming back on for a new season very soon)

Additional Comments:

It never occurred to me to put more than one tv show in my list, but at my house (pardon the pun) we watch the following shows all of the time. The shows are listed in no particular order):
  • Burn Notice
  • House
  • The Simpsons
  • Monk
  • Psych
I am sure there are a few others that I have not listed as well.
