Not sure what to do. I am able to go to excel and do an import of the database from access. So everything loads in find to excel, and can do pivottable. But what I am noticing is that where there should be text, there are numbers instead.

If I just go say to access and do an export to excel, it gives me what is in the fields. Text or numbers.

I want to be able to go through excel to import the data from access because it will always automatically update.

Is there away to make excel take what is in the field from the database.
I hope that I am asking this even right.

Please help.

Confused. :banghead:
Thank you in advance.
PS: MS Access 2010 and MS Excel 2010

Isn't it prudent to be certain that all rows in a column to be imported to be of the same data type. Fix it on the Data side or on the Excel side.

So you are saying that once the table is imported to Excel, I can change the number field to a text field without losing the data?

Thank you by the way for responding.

Hi gemmathe-husky

When I had set the database, I had a field that I called part number, and set it to number type. The part number would look like something like this: 2354 Sinks
The problem comes when I am trying to import access to excel so that I can use the pivottable. When it get into excel, everything looks great except where the part number read a number, and not 2354 Sinks.

If I go the other way, from access and export it to excel it comes out find. But this way will not let me automatically update it in a pivottable.

Please, Please I hope you have some cool tricks up your sleeves to help.

Thank you again for responding.

Unless you're linking the Access data, that is, importing it, how could the Access data change?
