Okay ... I think I've confused myself to the piont that I might not be able explain my issue ...so forgive me : )

I have a form called "change request" with a linked form called" assessment" ...

On both forms I have a common field called "Change request Number"
the change request number is an "auto number" field on the "Change Request Form" which feeds into the "change request Number" field on the "Assessment" form now ....the issue I have is

Whenever I click on the "change request number" field ont he "assessment" form I get the following error

"The value you have entered isn't validfor this field.....

Foe example, you may entered text in a numeric field or a nuber that is larger than the Fieldsizesetting permits?

I have honestly checked eveything I possible know to check ...if anyone can help I would really appreicate it!

Thank you in advance

(A) Check the table where the Assessment form is bound to. The foreign key there for change assessment number, is the number data type set to Long (required for linking an autonumber)

(B) Check the assessment form. On the control for the change assessment number you might have accidently set the format in the control properties.

Hello DK !

here the answers ...

(A) - it is as you stated

(B) - the format is set to match the format of the "auto number" field on the Change Request form

Hmmmm.

Try creating a new control in the assessment form and see if that clears it up. If not, any possibility you could strip the data out and post the db?

I wish!

I have too much data in it now ... sorry ...but thank you.....

Question... I'm starting to wonder if I really even need the the "change request number" field ont he Assessment form ..I mean really ...the form itself is linked so when I do enter data on the Assessment form it will it link in the table ....right?

Nevermind......I just tried ...it doesn't work : (

I zipped it up for yah ......

Thank you in advance

Okay, think I got it ...

You have those two fields in the tables linked in relationships, but I couldn't find where you was supplying the the primary key to the assessments table.

I copied the change number field over to the assessments form and set it's default value. This will pick up the correct number. I left it visible so you can see what I've done with a quick glance.

You can set this to invisible so the user can't see it or lock the field so the user can't change it to ensure that the link between the two tables will always be there.
