Front End Lag

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has run across this or has any idea what is causing it. I'm running a 2007 database that's split into a front end and back end. The back end is out on the network, and the front end is on my laptop. When I go to make any design changes to forms or reports on the front end it takes forever for every little thing. Example, I click on a text box and move it. Once I release the mouse button it will take a good 15-30 seconds before I get control again and make make any changes elsewhere. It appears the front end may be trying to connect with the back end when I make these changes, but don't know why it would do that or how to prevent it.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

I kind of hate to suggest the obvious but why not design on the laptop?

Like I stated in my initial post, the front end is on my laptop.

Duh, my bad.

So why not try putting a copy of the BE on your laptop...?

I have a few databases that I maintain using the BE, what I call the middle and the accde versions. I find that if someone is in the accde version on the network then the version I have open for editing will be a lot slower. I should also note that all 3 parts of the database are on the server so that I can work from anywhere (since my company wont buy me a laptop)

How are you connecting to the back end? Via wireless?

i have seen this - i came to the conclusion that in development mode, its hard to maintain a persistent connection to the back end, and that slows down data retrieval/connection times, when the be is in use by other users.

... and the moral of the story is, create a separate development stream.
