Frontend DB comboboxes

My DB has grown to be fairly large (23 forms/subforms & 55 tables). The majority of the tables contain lists that I use to populate comboboxes.

I recently discovered and dove into the world of split databases. The split is great (backend saved on server, frontend .mde saved on local computers, & code that keeps the connection open to improve performance).

However, one of my employees works remotely from home. She continues to complain that the performance of the DB has decreased to an irritatingly slow level. Specifically, when she tries to use comboboxes.

Does hard coding the choices in the combobox reduce resources? I'd simply have to re-deploy the frontend app if/when I add/change choices.

Or, should I import the lookup tables from my backend into my frontend instead of linking them?

I'm open to any other suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Yahtzee! My remote employee said it's definitely better. I guess this is another method to reduce the response time from backend tables to a frontend app!

So each front end has the table for the lookup choises then stores that selection to the linked table nice...

Would definately cut down on network traffic and increase response time but would require some kind of verification that the front end the remote user has was current? How do you deploy or verify updates?

Only asking as this seems an interesting way of making the most of bandwidth for remote users.

thanx John

John,
You can use Bob Larson's FE auto update utility found here: http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/...d.php?t=111132

Admittedly, I haven't added it yet. I simply e-mail the .mde version of the frontend app to the remote worker. Recently, all of the changes have been made to improve her FE performance, so it's in her best interest. However, I am going to add the auto updater so that when I make changes that affect data, reporting, etc., it will automatically redeploy.

I already use it and its a very good little app just asking if you had considered this :)

thanx anyway John
