General Workgroup Security Question

Hello,

I cant seem to get a certain setting right. I am trying to setup a user for the database that I have been working on. It keeps saying the following:

"It says I do not have necessary permissions to open. Have the system admin. Or person who created the object establish appropriate permissions for you."

I have that person assigned to the following:

Full Permissions
Full Data Users
Updated Data Users

And they still are unable to open the database.

Now from what I have read on this forum, I shouldn't give any personal permissions. So I have assigned users to groups and given the groups permissions.

In regards to the security question, what are bare minimums for a user to open the database, use the switchboard, choose a form, enter/change data via the form, and view reports.

I dont know the difference between:

Open/Run
Read Design
Modify Design
Administer

And I am afraid to give more than what I need, and I feel like I am just guessing and hoping to set it right. Thanks for any direction in this area.

Ok think I may be onto something. Now I noticed my Workgroup Information file settings as per group permissions is different from the Frontend and Backend.

Are these supposed to be the same?

Ok. I have the database split. It is located on a shared network drive which the test user can access. I am sending them a copy of the FE. The BE and workgroup file are located on the shared drive.

I have them set to Full Permission on both the FE and BE. Which is all the checked boxes but administer and Modify Design. On the database just Open/Run.

I have set the user to be part of the Full Permission group with no individual permissions.

I have the Admin only part of the Users group.

They still are gettting:

"It says I do not have necessary permissions to open. Have the system admin. Or person who created the object establish appropriate permissions for you."

Is there something I am missing or any idea of what to try next?

Found a great tutorial that helped me make sure everything was set and thought I would share it:

Now I think my problem has come down to one section this part which happens to be at the very end:

"Network Notes:

If you are creating a database for several users to user on a network, you will want to put both the MDW and the MDB file on the network for all persons to use. Everyone must join the new MDW to be authenticated properly. Otherwise, the MDB file will not allow them to access any objects. "

Does everyone have to join with my workgroup file or is there another way?

Found my problem. I needed to create a shortcut that tied my Workgroup Information file with the database. It was using the default on the other workstation. Now it works great...
