Glen Campbell doing at 70

I had the luck to see Glen perform on his tour of the UK a few years back.

He played "The William Tell Overture" on his guitar, it was absolutely brilliant. He is arguably one of the most gifted guitarists of all time.

Did you know he used to be one of the Beach Boys for a while?

I seem to remember that he toured with them, as fill in??

The Overture

Yes he filled in for Brian Wilson I think - for 6 months or so. BTW, on that video, he's actually playing that on a 12 string guitar. Absolute genius.

On a sadder note - anybody remember Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich? Well, Dave Dee died 2 days ago of prostate cancer, shame.

Here's somthing I bet you didn't know about Glen Campbell. All of the women in his life have one thing in common.

He beat them up.

It came to light when he was living with Tanya Tucker back in the '70s. He hit her. She kicked the crap out of him then kicked him out.

I remember Dave Dee when the band was Dave Dee and the Bostons. They were all a really pleasant bunch of blokes and very underrated as musicians. They used to do an acapella version of Eleanor Rigby that was blisteringly good. My band was playing the same circuit as them and would regularly bump into them at Grantham Services on the A1 - ah the famous "Grantham Sausage" - made from genuine sawdust, cooked at 3 pm on Saturday, kept under the infra red lights until completely dry and consumed at 2 am the following morning with congealed beans, fried egg and tired chips. Memories eh? How the hell did we survive?
