Happy Holidays one and all!

I see they're trying to bring religion into it now, it was a sensible pagan festival.

If it is a pagan fest, that would still make it religious. Not a solid commercial success as these days for being a parent are.

Ah, Mark... ALL major modern Christian holidays overlap original pagan celebrations. Easter is a "Sprint Fertility" holiday. Ash Wednesday is an attempt to reign in the revelry of Carnival, originally a time when hunting wasn't so good. All Saints Day is a cover-up of All Hallows Eve, or Halloween in the vernacular. Christmas overlaid Saturnalia. If it weren't for the screwed-up calendar from Julius Caesar, Christmas would ALSO overlap the Winter Solstice. But that calendar drifted because it didn't do leap years correctly.

Not necessarily. The pagans celebrated the winter solstice, which basically means that springtime is now on the way.
The Christians saw that their feeble festival celebrating the birth of a Mexican named baby was less popular so they hijacked the December date. Typical of any religion, just take what you want and brainwash the masses.

But "PAGAN" refers to religious beliefs. You can have a holiday based off of other than religious reasons. Ironic as "Holiday" is derived from "Holy Day".

@Doc,
Very true. Then again all religions tend to absorb each others days of observance. Makes it easier to get converts when they are already use to doing something that day.

If you say so, I'm too tired to argue.

Time for hibernation, see you in another 2 or 3 months.
