I'm about to start investigating these and thought I'd ask about other peoples experience with a view to putting a summary thread together.

They became available in A2010 and are similar to triggers in SQL server.

Here are some links for background

My concerns are:

  • using macros - I'm not a big fan
  • the fact that functionality is effectively hidden away from mainstream coding (so a bit like using lookups in tables - two years down the line huh - where did that record come from?)
  • what real benefit do they offer over VBA coding? - from the second link above it does seem there are a few 'tricks' to learn
  • Can it be upsized to SQL server? - I haven't found anything to say yes or no (my default position is no)
If anyone has used or investigated using data macro's I'd be interested to know their experience, what they used them for and any other thoughts or pearls of wisdom they have.
