Hi everyone,

I think I get the dead beat award with this one...

I have been trying to set up security for my database and have done something so that now no matter what Access database I try to open on my computer it is asking for a login. The problem is the logins I thought I created do not work so now I can't get into Access at all!!

Please let there be someone out there who can help this goose!!

Don :(

The deadbeat just solved his deadbeat problem:

I found where I created the new workgroup mdv (?) file and deleted the b$@%$&$d !!! :D

Now I can open my databases again without the password.

How did you fix this? I'm having this same problem...

Hi rhayden. If you did anything like me then you must have changed the administrator settings which would have created a new .mdv file. When you changed the settings you would have elected to store the file somewhere. You need to find this file in explorer and delete the b*%$#rd!! But I think you need to be careful that you only delete the new .mdv file you created and not any other ones. But mate I am no expert on this so search the forum for other similar problems. That's where I got my lead from. Good luck!

don

the main thing is

a) take a copy of your unsecured database just in case until you have your security sorted

b) NEVER change system.mdw - always make a new security group and work on that.

c) keep copies of your MDW file (off your PC), or at least store the settings you used to create them. If you lose the MDW file, you CANNOT recreate it without using the exact security strings you used both to create it and add the users/groups
