Add a new ComboBox to your form and this time let the wizard choose the "find a record" method.
...how do i create a button to go to the report to have it shown to check to make sure it ok before printing...
You want to Preview the report so select that from the wizard instead of print.

Access is terrible at storing pictures! It bloats the db up something fierce. Look at the Northwind sample db under the employee's form and see what they have done with the pictures.

Switch to decaf.

I think I would have used a subform to display records selected by the cbo on the main form. Just as simple, is putting the (unbound) cbo in the form header with details in the Detail section. Lately, I use the SmartForm addin. There are lots of suggestions here for doing that.

The command button wizzard will create the button to open your report in preview mode.

My experience with pictures is limited. Make that very limited. I did make a capital assets table for a friend who wanted pictures of the equipment available. For him, I put the pictures in a separate folder with file names for the pictures constructed from the related record ID. (That is not really necessary.) The asset table has a field that is a hyperlink to the picture. That way he can display the picture or not as he sees fit.

Thanks for your assistance

Will let you know about the progres

oh, i mean make a button to print preiview the report before have the option to p[rint my reports....

im back, fellas.

first off all, the combo box has been fixed, thank you for your kind assistance. it was bugging me alot for about 3 weeks.

secondly, i want it straight to the report print preview from the form but it must enter the student name so i only get the student information. i have two files.

thirdly, i will have a look in that sample.

fourthly (i know it not a word but..), what is "switch to decaf"

and lastly, this is for both the form and the report as this stuff is really bothering me alot ever since the beginning. i do not want any demincals...just a whole number so i use =(Date-Birthday)/365 and i want it round down or show months on it.

thank you for all of ur assistance.

have a nice day

Decaf is caffine free coffee. Soothes the nerves. Int() will strip any decimal part of a number.

please help me out with other questions

and sorry for doubleposting

this is urgent ya know

It may be urgent to you but it's certainly not to anyone else on here. You won't see people dropping everything they are doing (i.e. their own jobs) to do yours. In future, a simple description of the problem is preferred.

a search of the forums will answer your birthdate issue - there are many excellent examples of how to do this.

this is urgent ya know

So you said:rolleyes:

you are very near to being ignored with your demanding attitude - be very careful:rolleyes:

If you need a report to show only the record that is on the form, use the IDNo of the person as the criteria in the report's query.

In other words, have the IDNo hidden on the form and reference that.

and I told you to search for the birthday problem and you will find an answer.

Don't know if it helps but regarding the pictures, in the table design do field as picture or whatever you want, then Data Type as OLE Object this then allows you to do a right click and then insert your picture as BMP image or just do a paste, discovered that yesterday as had same problem.

Probably wrong way to do it!!! but seems to be working and pictures are working in three other areas in reports so links well!!

Pasting an Image?

I am intrigued. This doesn't seem to work for me. I need to use an image on a form, and actually edit the image. I have looked at the various versions of the employees form in Northwind, and one of them actually stores the photo in an ole object field, and when I double click, I get to edit the picture!

Now, when I try to paste the image that I want to be in there (which is a medical image instead of the fake Northwind employee) I don't see the image but just the icon and file name. Very frustrating! So the images that are in there do exactly what I want, but I can't get a new image in to both view and edit?

You can actually paste images and they show up just like the previous ones?

Tell me more, if you can.

Thanks,

Matt
