Horse or cow? (1 Viewer)

So's twat, get used to that one too

Yes, we have a paki newsagent across the road from us. He's very nice, he's open from 6am to 7pm, very handy.

Plus we have 2 chinkies and a chinkie chip shop within half a mile.;)

Don't Americans call black people "niggers" in the south?

Col

Some do. Such people disgust me.

Well said Ken, shame Rich and Col don't agree.

The pair of wankers!

Ken (I think) was referring to the word "slant" when he said he'd play safe. I too wouldn't use that term.

But, as I pointed out, if a Chinese person uses the word "Chinkie" (my sister-in-law) then I don't see the problem.

However, I fail to see why Paul has to resort to such a comment as his last one - is there a need for it?

Sorry - my sister in law uses the word wankers all the time.

I didn't know you would take offence.

On the other hand Col - I and others have told you we take offence at the word Chinkie - but you persist with it.

Just illustrating a point.

Lets hope she doesn't use it during a job interview.
I didn't know you would take offence.
I didn't, I just thought it was a strange thing to say during a discussion and questioned the need for it.

Only because you're the only person (in the UK) I've ever come across who doesn't like it. Do you have a Paki newsagent near you?

Just illustrating a point.
Oh right - is that what it was?

Col

You are quite clearly demonstrating you are choosing your racist language to be deliberately offensive.

Carry on and hang yourself if you wish.

Originally it is a label to elevate oneself above an ethnic minority. I know you don't see that. You see it as a harmless slang but in reality this is why terms such as these get coined. Their real purpose is to compartmentalize and segregate.

You may talk to the newsagent and be friendly to him but when you go home he is still a "paki". He's labelled, boxed up and put away for safe keeping.

The reason a minority adopts such terms is actually quite clever. They are actually throwing the insult back in your face. They are showing you that your derogatory term doesn't bother them and fizzle out any intended offence given. By using the term they have removed the originator's possession of it and take control of its use.

No we all get upset sometimes. It's safer not to use a slang term to describe someone if you don't know how they're going to take it.

We meet different people with different views all the time on this board.
Ahhhhh the diversity of it all :)

As do the majority of the UK I'd wager. (well, obviously not Paul:rolleyes: )

Thats a joke, right?
Remind us what word you used to be deliberately offensive to Rich and I and to possibly offend other members of this forum by them reading it.

I used the word "wankers" - refering to yourself and Rich - I have since apologised, because you seemed to take exception to it.

You are using "Chinkie" and "Paki" .

Yes shame on Paul for not conforming to the national Col viewpoint.

What a terrible shame if what you said were true.

Are you not the slightest bit interested in the origin of these terms that you use? The original contexts in which they were and still are being used?

Perhaps you'd rather not concern yourself with it. Rather just use the terms because everybody else SEEMS to.

Only the idiots, and it is all over, not just the south.

Don't let Col speak for the UK.

Col - How do YOU use the word "Paki"?

Would you call someone from Pakistan a "Paki"?

All of these words seem rude to me. I have used some of them in the past and I shouldn't have...:o

Paul is perfectly entitled to his opinion

referring to a Chinkie as a Chinese meal or restaurant, I reckon its a fair bet I'm right.
However, referring to a Chinkie as a Chinese person, I'd say not, I don't use it nor does anyone I know. I have never said I did use it in reference to a Chinese person.

Are you not the slightest bit interested in the origin of these terms that you use?
No doubt you're going to tell me:rolleyes:

How did this start??? It was Rich saying his local Chinkie used cats when the chicken was finished wasn't it?

Black's here call each other "******" all the time, we even see it on TV. But god forbide a white person do that. Double standard, but it is what it is. So I don't think you base someone of that race using that term to justify you using the term (as an example).
BUT I am not saying this "chinky" is bad or good in the UK, don't take it the wrong way, that is for yall' in the UK. I think here it might be considered bad.

Humm, the Paki, Chinkie, Jap, WOP whole thing, if not racially motivated, must then be motivated by something else. What could that be, hummmmm.
Only thing pops to mind is lasiness! To lasy to speak the whole thing out. Chinese, or Pakastani, etc. Must be one of the down sides to all that Hip-Hop crap they listen too :)

dan-cat, if we all joined each other in ignore-Rich land I think we'd be better off.

FoFa, I agree completely. I might add that anyone who uses the term in front of black people (unless -maybe- you're also black) is guaranteed to offend if not outright get their ass kicked or killed.

Colin, to clarify my original point: I was not suggesting Rich's usage of the word "chinkie" was intended to be offensive or that his usage even was, for certain, offensive. All I suggested is that some people on these forums will consider it a racial slur and find it offensive (as Lisa obviously did). Therefore, anyone who cares even a tiny bit about not offending other members would avoid intentionally using such words.

I'd also like to add that I completely agree with you about the US's screwed up views on sexuality. We're actualy quite idiotic about it. Thanks, ultra-conservative Christian founders! However, I will point out that child pornography is taken very seriously and police investigations are constantly attacking the industry. I would be happy to provide more information on the topic, but I seriously doubt I'll be able to conduct any internet research on child porn without hitting some websites I'd rather not have logged in my history, especially while at work. However, if you desire, I will do my best later this evening.
