How to get Totals in Access Queries

I have the following fomular to find sum/ total in an MS Access Query: Total: [Q1]+[Q2]+[Q3]+[Q4].
in Q1 and Q2 there is Data, while in Q3 and Q4 there in none, not even the Zeros or I can say there are null values. To my surprise I can't get anything, but when i exclude Q3 and Q4 I get the results. Please HELP..
