How to import data from excel using access 97?

Hi guys,

I have a problem. My boss has 4 sets of attendance list which uses Excel to tabulate. However, she mentions that the 4 sets of attendance list have duplicate set of values, meaning to say that there could be same names appearing in 2 or more sets of attendance list.

Instead of manual (menial) search, how can I import Excel spreadsheet and do validation such that if it imports a same record, it will discard and reads in the next record?

And assuming that the attendance lists I receive are of different heading, how can I rectify the problem before importing?

e.g: one list has headings such as Name, Sex, Date of birth while the other has headings such as Name,Gender, DOB
 
The available version I have for Access is 97.
Please do not ask me /my boss to upgrade the software.

File->get external data.

There will be a wizard there to guid you.

Then you use primary keys in the import table to refuse duplicates.
