Q: Can you explain the strange artefact on the form just behind your Print button - it doesn't appear to be a form object - what is it caused by?

That's definitely true but, as you realise, it doesn't answer the question.

I had previously only opened the reports directly but now see your command bar on the cmdPrint button.
I've also now looked at the ShowShapeMenu & CreateShapeMenu code and don't see how the commandbar object triggers that shape on the form.

So I renamed your form then copied all your objects and code into a new form and named it frmExams so your code still worked.

Result: the button still has the commandbar, the reports still open but I no longer see the artefact. I'm happy but no wiser.
