I hate access 2007

The help file has been helpful to me in the past. Not always, but more often than not. I guess we must be looking for different things when we're looking.

One reason I like using A97 is that the help in A97 is easy to use, and it works

You find what you want. Ive struggled in every other version.

ewwww 97, That brings back bad memories of converting to 2000....97 to 2000, is the worst transition, every other version has worked for me without having to convert the database. I've used 2000 for years at home and even have it on a 64 bit Windows 7 PC, it's just as useful...so far I haven't seen anything that has "Wowed" me in Access 2007,

I'm not interested in fancy Ribbon Menus in Access, especially since the end user won't need most of them...funny how Outlook retained the old menu style though.

I could live with the Navigation "Pain" if it would show my object descriptions, I always used that to make notes as I am trying out different queries...Properties are there, but you can't display them.

Oh ya...One thing I like in Access 2007...the Calender picker is built in to the text control when formatted as date...I really like that :)

I stepped up from Access 1997 to Access 2007, the ten year itch. & seems to the right number for Microsoft as Access 1997, 2007 and Windows 7 have all been relatively successful. As I bypassed the Access 2000 and 2003, I did find the User Interface a great improvement although Access 1997 is a great environment to develop in.

Old habits die hard.

I think one huge improvement to the UI for the developer is the implementation of Tabs. It was a bit of a mess maximising and missing the right object. Don't know if anybody else can attest to that? :)

I still haven't played around with Win 7. I heard it's a winner.

I LOVE Windows 7. I have it on my home desktop computer, my laptop and I even upgraded my WinXP on my netbook to Win7 and am loving it.

They say it's very optimised. No gunk, no junk!

Since you're so optimistic about it maybe you should create a discussion thread? hehe!

I think a search would reveal that there have been some threads about it already started.

I have to disagree on this one. I hate the tabs, and I hate having that window over on the left side!! Guess I was just too used to the cascading windows!

I will say that win 7 is sweet though. although i'm having some issues with it and office 2007... who knew???

I like the tabs. I have occasionally reverted to Overlapping Windows when I really wanted to see two objects at the same time.
It can be easily changed in Access Options > Current Database.

I also like the Navigation pane. It is readily accessible being easy to pop open or closed as required rather than finding it among the other windows in the old versions. I am even starting to use the object grouping.

Once you get over the old mindset the ribbon provides a much more sensible grouping of commands than the old menus. I run the ribbon minimised, particularly if I need the space.

The filtering options when viewing tables is a vast improvement over earlier versions.

Access 2010 will be even better for the Ribbon as it provides a decent programmaticaly way to minimize the Ribbon (instead of SendKeys).

Oh yes, 2010 is looking up. I once found a short API for minimizing and maximizing the ribbon.

problem with tabs is you can't compare data sets if you are troubleshooting queries...have to flip back and forth...sometimes I like them other times I don't

I do like Windows 7, never had Vista... I thought I was going to have more problems with 64 bit system, but I run all my programs and devices with no issues...even Office 2000 runs without issue.

Ziggy1, what do you mean by your first statement? Comparing data sets whilst troubleshooting?

I must install it sometime. Just have to think about formatting etc.... long.

Well lets say your working on a query and you want to look at the table, I just like to be able to see them both at the same time (tile horiz), or maybe a report and table.

look at Google Chrome as an example, grab a tab and drag it down...it pulls away into it's own window...that's what would make it cool...different programs but same Idea...then tie it in with Windows 7 where it "Snaps" in place...now that would be good functionality...also would be nice if objects (query forms etc) could drag out of Access work area ( make use of Dual monitors).... sorry I just think 2007 attempts to make some good progress, but doesn't finish the job.

Alright, I've got you. You do know you can switch them off and revert back to old style layout?

Even Firefox has the same functionality. It can be argued they got the idea from them hehe! If they were going to abstract design view layout from form view layout (for example), then the idea of having it snap back would be very cool.

In any business you can't give it all :)

Ya I know I can switch the tabbing off in options >Current DB... as far as FireFox, the Tabs don't pull out like Chrome..my son actually showed me..you can also drag them back up to the tab bar and it snaps in

I thought you would have been the one showing your son Ziggy1? Hehe! In terms of the smoothness at which it snaps in I think google chrome is much better. The engine is rather slow though. Another thing is (I'm not sure if G Chrome has it, I would imagine it does) you can move a tab from one window to a completely different window. How cool is that!

well He's 16...and you know Kids and the internet :)

I think that is what I'm trying to say, grab the tab and drag it to a separate window...Firefox doesn't do that ( you can drag them left right on bar only).

I wonder how long before we get in trouble for turning this into a Random discussion :)

He's done rather well then

It most certainly does. You must be using the old version. I think they started doing it from version 3.5.x, not sure. Get 3.6, that's the most recent.

Haha!! As long as we stay in accordance with Fair Internet Use policy, DCrake won't mind (much):D
