Hi,
I have an Oracle export dump file (single table about 1gb in size).
Is it possible to import this directly into access or do I need it to be a csv file.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

as long as you have seperators or its a fixed length file either is posible...

I don't know what an Oracle dump file is but unless it is a text file of either fixed or delimited format, you'll need to convert it to something else. It might be easier to just link to the Oracle db and extract the data that you need. That way you can select only the specific columns and rows you need. Or, you don't have to extract anything at all. Just use the linked Oracle table:)

Thanks for the advice Namliam and Pat.
Yes, I was afraid that that would be the case. The Oracle export file is not delimited or separated in any way, so I'll have to try a different approach. I was actually trying to import it to a SQLServer database which I believe is not a problem from Access but not possible to do directly from an Oracle export file, so I was hoping I could use Access as a sort of 'middle man'.
Pat, an Oracle export dump file is a file created with the Oracle export utility, which can be used to export tables or schemas which can be used as backups or for import into other databases.

Thanks again for responding.

for import into other databases.
Thus it must have some structure... either delimited or fixed with ... otherwise no DB will be able to deal with it...

Maybe they are insert commands?

Regards

sorry, when I said other databases I should have said other Oracle databases.

Still Oracle would also need some kind of structure for it to be able to import. Tab delitited for instance might seem undelimited or unstructured but actually is....
