Installing Access 2010

I've been switching back and forth between Access 2007 and Access 2010 with no problem as long as I open the database from Access. I right-clicked on a 2007 database in Explorer and selected 2007 but it came up as 2010. Today I right-clicked on a Word document and it opened up in Word 2010. Well, I didn't want 2010 so I closed Word 2010 and opened Word 2007 and I got a large installation popup, not one of those little ones, and I waited a while and it appeared to hang. I had to restart the computer. Access 2007 is still working fine but I'm afraid to open Word 2007. This will be a problem if I can't get Word 2007 back because I can't afford to buy the entire Office 2010.

The supposed solution is to open Word 2010, let it reconfigure completely, then close Word 2010, and then open Word 2007 and again, let it reconfigure to completion.

As for your 2007 files opening in 2010, be aware that 2010 can read 2007 and thus when you open 2010, the reconfiguration changes association so opening the file will open the "current" version since the last reconfiguration. It may be better to not open files but open application first and then open files from applications.

Then you have to be disciplined to not be hasty and let reconfiguration complete and don't open mixed versions (remember Office shares several components so I wouldn't even want to have Excel 2007 and Access 2010 open at same time).

I'll give this a try. I have been opening databases from the program but I forgot and double clicked on a Word document. As of now, I don't expect I'll be keeping Office 2010 after the trial period.
