Is it weird that I like coffee cups in the shape of a parabola, because it reminds me of rocket engines.
So I can sit in the morning and imagine super heated gasses moving at dozens of times the speed of sound exploding out of the rim propelling it 6.5 G to 17,000 miles per hour so it can achieve a low earth orbit.
Later, after it has a chance to sightsee for a couple of hours, it turns into an ion engine and spreads its solar collector to head out for the stars.
This time far less violent than the exploding liquid used to get through the atmosphere and achieve escape velocity, the charged particles bouncing off its shiny curved inside accelerates it a mere .06 G.
But, the impact speed has increased from a few dozen times the speed of sound, to .998 C (almost light speed). And now it settles in for the long haul, by the time it is too far from the sun to charge its engines, it will head into deep space at .14C
Now, if you really want to know weird, I actually started to look up acceleration formulas so I could ad a little authenticity to my prose.
But, I decided it was time to quit this little journey.
