I have successfully managed to import a range fo text files on my new PC ( has MSAccess 2003 installed) but for some reason 2 of the files keep reporting errors.

To complicate matters I have managed to import those files onto another colleagues PC without any problem that was installed at the same time as the one I am using.

First of all I choose, 'delimited', then 'tab', imported into an 'exisiting table' ( as copied over the definations from an old table) and then the following error message appears:

The error message I get is ' invalid argument'

Which is then followed by :

'C:\documents and Settings\ppatel\desktop\Notices.csv'. The file was not imported.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be occuring?

How big is your Database?

If this file is really a "csv" - comma separated - then tab delimited is
not appropriate, in my view. Were all of the files imported of the csv type?

I missed that part jdraw - the OP should of course be using Comma as the delimiter when importing the .csv file - but even when using tab as the delimiter the error message he is encountering is not displayed when I have tried - though another error message will be displayed informing him that not all data was imported correctly.

I suspect that his Database might be pushing the 2gb limit?

I can confirm that all the files are .csv and that the default appears to be to open with Excel.

I can confirm that my database is over 2gb.

Then you need to shrink your Database somehow or think of another back end solution. Try a compact and repair - if you're still near 2gb then you're going to have to have a rethink.

Thank you!

Problem sovled. I was unaware that you could not have more that 2GB on the database. The previous guy, athough having a large database ( over 7gb) actually created many databases and then linked them to a master database.

Thank you for your help. It does seem odd that there is no way to add all this info to one database. By the way will shrinking allow for me to add all the info to one database?

Regards. Pari.
