I created a relatively simple database that allows several managers to enter their budget data for the coming year. The accounts are such that they should never be editing the same record. (An account number belongs to only one department). It is a single, stand alone file and not a split database. For some reason, it appears as though it is duplicating itself, creating another file with the same filename and the a 1, 2, etc. after it. At first I thought someone had done this manually but it's happening over and over again. Could it be that when multiple people are in the database and someone leaves that was not the first one on, it is saving their changes in a duplicate file?? HELP!!!!

Never heard of this. I would suspect a user is mucking about in the folder...

Maybe you could just set them up with a shortcut on their desktop so they stay out of the folder...

If by chance they were editing the same record would it do this??

Never happened here. Maybe you could watch who goes in and when and see if it happens with a particular user / workstation. Kind of experiment around and see if you can duplicate the problem...

Do you have "Compact on Close" checked in the options. Sometimes if it does not compact correctly it will make a copy of itself.

No. Compact on close option is not checked.

I switched it to a FE/BE and it's still doing it. Anybody have any other ideas??

Have you isolated it to one or two users or are you convinced it happens regardless of who / when / where a user opens / updates the db?

Sounds as if you can duplicate the error. (?)
