i inherited a database created i believe in access 2000
everytime i need to update a report or what not i must find a machine runnning 2000
how do i go about working on this database with access 2003

Thank you

ac2k3 can maintain an ac2k db just fine. You should encounter no difficulty. Are you having problems?

Hi neous,

ac2K3 by default is set to ac2k files, you have to change the default to ac2k3 in order to use ac2k3 files on ac2k3. To change the default goto "Tools", "Advanced tab" and then select the appropriate "Default File Format:".

I have updated a few from ac2k to ac2k3. It is not hard make a new ac2k3 empty database and import all ac2k contents in. Or you can use "Tools", "Database Utilities", Convert Database", "To Access 2002 - 2003 File Format".

But as Rural Guy has indicated it should work with no problems as a ac2k file as well.

Be careful, if you are using an ADE/MDE compiled file you will not be able to create an Acc2000 ADE/MDE using Acc2k3.

Upgrading to Acc2k3 sounds great, but (in this example) you will have to upgrade the Access runtime from 2000 to 2003.

Only *consider* upgrading if all your users have Acc2k3 or its runtime.

I run Acc2000 and Acc2k3 on the same PC to overcome issues I have with users having either a Acc2000 or Acc2k3 runtime installed.

If you are on the go, why not invest in a cheap laptop? I have!

Best wishes
Marcus.
