I understand that the maximum file size for an Access db is 2GB but can you essentially have as many fields as you like as long as you do not exceed the 2GB threshold?

I am doing some planning for creating a database with ~90 fields and want to know before I start it whether it will be able to handle that many.

I believe the limit of fields in a table is 255. 90 fields in a table seems a bit extreme. Sounds like you have a normalization issue.

Yea thats what I told my boss but he's insisting that this is what he wants.

Thanks for the help.

If the boss understands database design, let him design it! Users never see tables so how would he know?

If you have 90 fields it is highly likely that most of these should become individual records in a related table. Access tables should be long and narrow not short and wide. It sounds like the boss expects the table to look like a spreadsheet.
