Hi!

After having set up my database's security settings, I accidentally edited (and later - not so accidentally - deleted) the original .mdw file. Ever since, I cannot access the database anymore. I still have the information on all the original security settings (assistant report), including the group and user IDs, the passwords, each user's personal IDs, etc.

Is there any way how to recover or redesign the original .mdw file again? I am an absolute Access-beginner and have already learned my lesson: in the future I will only experiment on a copy of my database and .mdw file...

Help would be sooooo much appreciated. I am not so much worried about the data but rather the nice reports tables and reports I have created in the last couple of weeks...

Thanks for any suggestions!

If your copy includes two things: Workgroup ID and Personal ID for each users/groups, then you lucked out. You merely need to create a new .mdw using the same Workgroup ID and Personal ID with same naming schemes for users and groups, then everything should work.

If you don't, then I'm afraid you're hosed.

Well, there may be programs out there that allow you to recover .mdw, but I don't think there's any one that is free so you may end up coughing up some dough to do so.

Best of luck.

Thanks a lot. I have already tried to do that once, but will start another attempt...

That was it!!!!!!! At the second attempt it worked out perfectly fine! Thank you sooooo much, you can't imagine how relieved I am!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You earn a pat on your back for having saved that vital data so you could rebuild it, so thank yourself as well. :)

Glad it all worked out.
