No need to worry about the Coronavirus, we are all doomed anyway. Asteroid Could Cause Atmospheric Explosion If It Gets Too Close. Actually this is a case of click bait fake news. This is also an example of why the media can't be trusted with science. The last paragraph of the article: "CNEOS said the asteroid is expected to approach Earth on March 18 at 11:15 p.m. EDT. During this time, the asteroid will fly past Earth from a distance of 0.04241 astronomical units or roughly 3.9 million miles from the planet’s center." (emphasis added)
Interesting. A few days ago, I also read this article: Scientists Identify Atlantic Ocean As Dangerous Asteroid’s Point Of Impact, Warns About Tsunamis. As with the prior article; they are slow to inform you that the asteroid strike is expected to occur on: March 16, 2880. Well at least we have 860 years! (emphasis added).
In trying to re-find the above article, it appears that, this event has been know for some time. "Geophysical Journal International, Volume 153, Issue 3, June 2003". (emphasis assed) So, in a sense this article by International Business Times is "old" news. I don't recall hearing about this potential impact.
Since both these misleading articles are from the International Business Times, it seems that this is not a very reputable source of information.
