I am considering adding a Tutorials forum in the Microsoft Access Reference section. The idea is to have user submitted tutorials that get screened for quality and then added by admin. Perhaps I can add reputation points for each submitted tutorial.

These tutorials may also make it into the main site section under the tutorials tab.

The idea is that by providing tutorials, they can help with common issues and even help beginners get up and running.

Your thoughts?

There are more than enough tutorials on YouTube (for example). If you introduce this feature users will not post as many questions as they are now and as a result, they will not get to see much of your advertising, i.e. banners, pop-up adverts, context advertising. Obviously you can begin to see that there will be a lot less interaction between helpers and posters.

I think the Code Repository and Sample Databases sections are sufficient.

I don't care what YouTube or any other site has regarding tutorials. I want this site to be #1 for Microsoft Access Tutorials. Tutorials can be video or written - poor old YouTube, video only! lol

My belief is that if we have tutorials here, we will attract more people and there will be more interaction. The more value we can add to this site, the better it will be for users. That's partly why I am trying to make it run as fast as possible so its a better user experience.

Of course there will be more interaction between the users and the tutorials:p Having a system where you offer points to post tutorials will cause helpers to focus more on getting as many tutorials up (for the points) instead of focussing on the questions being asked. So maybe the reps idea isn't a good idea. My opinion.

Jon, I already have over 2½ hours of video tutorials. I originally wanted to post them here on this website but I couldn’t because your site does not allow the posting of embedded YouTube video. I would be happy to post them here if you made it possible. Some of them have their equivalent in text.

This is a link to my Ning website if you wanted to have a look yourself: http://msaccesshintsandtips.ning.com/

I ended up using a Ning website which was free when I started, however now I think I am paying about $20.00 a month for it.

This one I am particularly proud of:
Excel in Access (1, 2 and 3 are Text based) http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=671226

Excel in Access (4 is a video edition) http://msaccesshintsandtips.ning.com/profiles/blogs/excel-in-access-part-4

It’s hosted here in (Access World Forums) and on my Ning website. (Video Version only on Ning)

Uncle Gizmo, I just took a quick peek at one of your Excel tutorials. That is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for. Nicely structured, plenty of screenshots, focused on a particular training area. Nice job!

When we setup the training area, we will have to move those posts into it. :)
