Mobile Access???

Hi guys just doing some research at this point in time and was wonder if anyone in here could answer a question i had over night.

Is it possible using VB and access to send a text message to a mobile device?

I would appreciate any form of input into this question.... things i was considering allready are:

1. is voip required?
2. another program?
3. web based database?

Cheers Krispy89

There are probably other ways, but I know at least a couple of providers have email addresses you can use that convert to a text. For example, emailing to

1234567890@vtext.com

will send a text to that Verizon phone.

Re: Mobile Access???

Sorry that is my bad i wanted to move this post to general will not happen again sorry

I am only sure of the domain for Verizon, as I send to that one. I don't know if other carriers follow the same pattern. You would have to check with the specific provider to see if they offer the service and what the address would be.

Re: Mobile Access???

No problem; it just keeps discussions more organized and the site less cluttered.

This is all great news for me the only remaining problem now is i am australian therefore i am looking for telstra, optus, three in australia??

Ok well unfortunatly that did not work for telstra so if anyone can find a domain/gateway to get this to work it would be greatly aprreciate it...

Telstra (australia) Email to text domain

I went down the route of connecting my mobile to my computer with the USB cable (so it kept the phone charged - could use bluetooth also) and sending AT commands to the phone as if it were a modem.

Can send and receive messages now from computer, except you'd need a phone and account ($12 a month unlimited texting to all networks here in NZ on Telecom so no major expense, though they're having a few network issues at the moment ... another story ...)

I use it to send messages to rugby club members who have given me their numbers and I've entered into the database. e.g. cancellations, reminders, meeting times, game times etc. I've even sorted those numbers into groups (different teams, committee members, managers, coaches etc). The phone sits connected to the computer inside the office.

I've also set it up to poll the phone for new messages sent to it from my personal mobile number with a code preceding the message. It reads the code to check groups to send the message to, it reads my text and forwards that on to those numbers belonging to that group. Means I don't need to even be next to the phone for it to send a message out, I just need to text it a message to forward on to the appropriate groups.

It's an idea at least, and something that works for me. Might not be the most efficient, but it certainly gets the job done, and for $12 a month it's not of any great cost. The volume of texts sent out is very very low (maybe 400 a month tops).

Regards,
Pete
