When I look at an mdb file under Explorer I can see a date which is date modified.

Does anybody know for certain what this relates to.

Is it ?
Date data was added/changed/deleted
Date a Table/Form/Query/Macro/Module was added/changed/deleted.

or a combination of both

I am dealing with Acc97

The date that anything within the file was modified. You can grab the date that a specific object [table, report, etc] was modified.

Try this as the Control Source for a text box...

="Last Modified: " & DLookUp("[DateUpdate]","MSysObjects","[Name] = 'YourTableNameHere'")

OR

MsgBox "Table was last modified on " & DLookUp("[DateUpdate]","MSysObjects","[Name] = 'YourTableNameHere'")

Be warned that the date will change when a design change has been made and also when the db has been compacted. The date is not updated when a record change has been made to the table.

I believe it is a combination of both or either will cause the date/time modified to be updated. I know in 2000 you can display the Date Created and Date Modified in the Database window which will tell you when specific tables/forms/queries/reports, etc have been changed. I think you can do that in 97 also. But the explorer Date Modified will be updated if anything is changed/added/modified/deleted also if you open and compact and then close without adding or changing any data.
Hope this helps. :)
