more db windows appear in subsequent mail merges

What is the way to keep only one database open during subsequent attempts to mail merging?

After the connection between Access and Word are established, the letter is written and the document is closed, if I want to write another letter, a second database window opens rather than using the previous one, or closing the previous one and using the new one, whichever is appropriate.

How can I get rid of these new databases opening whenever a merge is implemented?
