Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountred this and maybe has some advice.
I have a shared accdb, split FE/BE, BE resides in a LAN Directory with permissions limited to just a few users. The FE is on my desktop. The dB in it's location had been Trusted and Enabled. Nothing changed since the last time I opened it.

Occasionally when I first OPEN the FE it never loads up, same issue after Compact & Repair. Shutting down the dB and re-opening fixes the issue and it works normally. But the next day may exhibit the same symptoms.

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and maybe have a solution?

Thanks in Advance!

You mean you are dbl-clicking the file to open it and it doesn't open?
If so then try opening Access first and then going to File open and see if that works.
Also you could try creating a shortcut which has a direct reference to Access.

I would also try taking the database off your Desktop and putting it in a Folder. Put a Shortcut on your Desktop as it may be the locking file is having trouble deleting itself from the Desktop.

Another thing that can leave Access in that state is if you open a recordset and then forget to close it. So, Access even though you closed it, is not really closed because of that open recordset. You might want to also make sure you have closed all recordsets you opened.

Thanks for the thoughts:

The Access application opens but the appointed startup form doesn't load. Tables seems to load and the assigned statup Form is there in the Nav Pane but even when I click on it from the Nav Pane that Form still won't load. But as I said, if I shut down access and reopen the Front End by double clicking, it works normally. Just plain wierd behavior.

I'm trying your suggestion of a dedicated folder rather than the Desktop directory to see if that will make a difference, although the FE's .ldb file has never had any issue appearing and removing itself upon shutdown as far as i can tell. No ADO/DAO recordsets are being left open, just using SQL and as far as I can tell when the query is closed there are no lingering recordsets, and when the ms access application closes no .ldb file remains.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll let you know what happens over the next few days.

Cheers!

OK, Putting the FE into the dedicated folder has proven to solve the problem.
Thanks Gina!

Cheers!
