I have gone through the whole process of setting up users and groups as well as assigning permissions for a database I need to install on a client's network. I created the security on a standalone computer and am trying to test it.

I read countless threads on this forum and also downloaded the Microsoft FAQs about Access Security. Although I learned a great deal and feel I have followed all the instructions carefully, I have a problem.

I made a backup copy of system.mdw and I created a new workgroup, file named Phru_Projects.mdw. I ran the security wizard to create a secure DB. I then created a new blank DB and imported ALL the objects. I then reset all the users and groups and assigned permissions to them all. I created a new administrator account and removed all permissions from Users group.

My final step was to create a shortcut on the desktop with command line parameters (I did not include a user prompt in the shortcut). This works fine except that the only user name that is accepted in the administrator one - MarkAdmin. If I try any other user name, a message box pops up saying "You do not have permission to use..."???.mdw"...

Any idea what I am doing wrong? I've spent hours trying to figure this out and am now totally confused.

Check this point. If you have removed all permissions from the Users group then the members of this group have no permissions and it is possible that you have removed even the "open" permission.

Try resetting the User group permissions to read and try again.

Thanks for response. Yes, I have actually solved this problem already. You are correct - I had not given any users the right to open/run the main switchboard form.

Thanks for suggestion.
