I am trying to create a database which allows me to to record the football (soccer) matches which I referee. If a player should be cautioned or sent off during a match, then a disciplinary report has to be submitted to the appropriate Association.

This report is currently an MS Word document (although I have created one in excel within my existing spreadsheet).

Before I toil on any further with my database (toil being the correct phrase as I am not particullarly good with Access), can anyone tell me if it is possible to copy the original document into Access (I would then get the database to somehow complete the missing data for me)? If it is possible to 'import' then how do I go about this. Any / all help much appreciated.

No, it is not possible. A Word document, and Access report, are completely different on the inside, though they may look the same on the outside.

I am sure you can do that without and difficult work. Depending on how complex your document is, it just may take some time to do. If you can get a .jpg image of how your document looks, you could use that image as the background of your report (linked, NEVER embedded). If that is not possible, you can simply recreate the document inside of Access. It may end up looking a little different, but I am sure you can make it work. In the spots where the information goes, just leave a blank and put the control there.

I thought about recreating it but thought it would take too long to do. Using the document as a background? Is that like a watermark type thing? If so how do I do that? Would I then be able to get the gatabase to produce the correct results in the correct place?

Perfection takes time.

Yes, though it does not have to be faded out like a watermark.

Getting a jpg of your document is up to you. Just google it. Try some searches like doc to jpg or something along those lines.

I am not even sure if this is a plausible idea, but if recreating the document is too much trouble, then this is worth a shot.

Hopefully getting the correct result is not an issue. Putting the results in the correct place is simply a matter of aligning the appropriate control over the correct location.

I know that perfection takes time but there is a lot of static information to show on the report and the layout has to be spot on as it's an official document. My main problem with recreating the document is getting it to look like the original.

You could also print the document, and then use that same page to print again to fill in the blanks in access.

Or you could think about using mail merge, then there is no access report.
