I have just Welcomed about a dozen new members to the site.

I am starting to feel that people will look at me and say that I am just trying to get my post count up.

I can assure you that I am not.

I think it would be nice for every new member gets at least two replies welcoming them here.

It is good manners. If they can take the time to say HI then so should we.

So how about some help.

I quite agree. But it would be nice if some of them would not post their introductory remarks in the Watercooler especially as Jon has asked them not to.

I've recently put a sticky thread in the Watercooler to reduce the number posting their intro in the wrong place. Lets hope they take heed of the notice.

Jon

We can't change human nature.

Maybe if Moderators moved the Thread it could help?
But this is up to you Guys, as you have the Power.

My main thought is that we have attracted a new Member so lets do something about keeping them and getting them active.

Hi,

I agree with the sentiments above.

I decided to register here and attempt to give something back, as the answers on this forum have helped me numerous times in the past.

This is a very friendly and helpful community, I will try my best to welcome new users too.

Second thoughts.

Maybe just the one welcome is enough.

My mailbox is going crazy. :o:D:):)

RainLover, I am curious. Do you mean people are messaging you because you welcomed them and if so, what sort of messages are they?

No Jon

I am getting notifications after each other member posts a welcome.

They do add up and one needs to read them just in case there is something important.

The complaint was really tongue in cheek.

Ahhh ok! I was thinking then that perhaps they were touching base with you because you were an existing member and welcoming them.

Jon

You get the odd person who asks a question and about 1 in 4 say thanks for the welcome.

But they are not chasing me in particular if that is what you are asking.

Rain;
You are probably aware but you can shut off the notification feature so that you don't get your email box jammed up. I check my CP every time I log in to see if there is any activity in any threads I've subscribed to. I don't want to see emails from posters filling up my email. Just a thought. I recognize that we all march to different drummers and my beat may be different from yours.

Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan

I will have a closer look at your suggestion.

As for the post count, I'm sure that's not really a concern for people on this forum, is it? I mean, it's kind of childish. I don't think anyone would complain or not complain about it. I don't even notice these things.

Jon, is there a way we can set the introductory forum to not count toward post count? That might be a good suggestion to prevent this. I know I've seen it in other forums.

I'm not sure but to be honest, I don't really care! :)

I don't either, I was just curious.

Jon would there be a a way for new members to get an automatic welcome reply from a phantom NPC forum member? (Non Player Character) be made so it doesn't look like it's automatic... Random time delay - believable individual non player character name - randomised message.

I say hello to a few but it feels like you could spend all day saying welcome to people.

I have considered that before. :) There are some scripts that do something similar but they never quite work how I would want them to. I think part of the "problem" is that we are getting lots more members signing up now at an increasingly faster rate.

Consequently, its harder to say hi to everybody. Then again, I see that as a nice problem to have. I view this forum as a large asteroid that is sucking up debris using its gravitational pull. Its mass starts to increase and soon it becomes a planet.

The community here is the busiest of all Access sites and its getting busier. Viewing the forum stats shows more posts, nearly double the member signups compared to 3 months ago and traffic growing week by week.
