I have taken a beginner's class on Access years ago, and I've recently decided to see what I can do with it to manage some data for work. I am an accountant and deal with a lot of financial data in excel, but I'm not very experienced with Access.

The biggest problem for most power Excel users is to avoid structuring data in tables like Excel sheets. Normalization is the key word to remember from your Access class.
