no necessary permissions

Can someone explain to me why I continue to recieve the following message each time I attempt to open up database:
'you do not have the necessary permissions to open database'

I have joined the workgroup via workgroup admin and I have always been able to use it until now.

The only that has changed is that I recently updated my MS Office.

No, that hasn't changed.

If you updated MSA Office the workgroup probably did get overwritten or changed. What is the name of the workgroup? Is there another copy on another PC using the same version of Windows and Access that you could copy?

Try creating a shortcut to open the db like so:

"x:\Msaccess.exe" "x:\yourdb.mdb" /wrkgrp
"x:\yourworkgroup.mdw"

Substitute the appropriate directory location for "x:\", the appropriate db name for "yourdb.mdb" and the appropriate workgroup for "yourworkgroup.mdw".

I had the same thought but as they said they joined the workgroup via the administraitor I thought that they had surely named it other than system.mdw. On reflection this seems to be the most logical as perhaps they did retain the name system.mdw but located it elsewhere of the default. During the upgrade the administraitor might reset the file locations and although ghiafreek thinks that he/she is pointing to the correct location they might not be.

Guess we'll have to wait and see if ghiafreek ever responds back.

I've been working on getting this #$** thing straight.

I replaced the workgroup file now everything is cool.

If you did name the workgroup file system.mdw I urge you to change it as all computers have the system.mdw which means that your security is worthless.

God another reason im glad I dont use access security...
I've seen so many posts with stuff such as this...why dont you people create your own user defined security?
